Hospital Betania

This morning I had my first clinical experience, at the hospital Betania in Puebla. It's a middle class private hospital, similar in size to our local hospitals at home in Watauga or Wilkes, but darker and more cramped. I met a couple of the medical students and the attending physician, Dr. Tuvillo, who is the head of the pediatric ER/ICU. I'm sitting in on a course for the students and staff on non-invasive ventilation (BiPAP, IPAP, etc.). The first hour or so was interesting because it was a review of the physiology of the respiratory system. The rest was a little repetitive for me since I'm very familiar with these types of ventilators since we use them alot in nursing homes. It's interesting to me...this seems to be a fairly new idea here, though we have been using this technology for quite a while in the U.S.

After our salsa class this evening we went out to a salsa club in Puebla, Mambocafe, with the international students. I'm starting to get the hang of salsa though I'm still pretty bad at it. It's a little embarrassing...but fun =)
