Popocatepetl, churros, y la lucha

This morning was the first time I have been able to see Popocatepetl, the volcano, since I've been here. It's usually so cloudy/hazy that you can't see it even though it's not far away. In fact I was surprised by how close and how big it is! The top is covered in snow and it breathes puffy white smoke; it has been active since around the time of the Mexico City earthquake in May. I could only see it for a few hours in the morning before the top was covered in smoke and clouds. It is absolutely beautiful!
Tonight in cooking class we made churros, dulce de leche, and another Mexican dessert that is made from a caramely sauce and nuts that are pressed into a chewy bar. YUM!
Later we met up with Heather, Nadareh, Austin, and Jennifer and went to the Lucha in Puebla. The Lucha is a fight....a staged fight with actors who pretend to beat the living daylights out of each other. I wasn't impressed. It was painful to watch and the crowd was pretty wild, including a three or four year old who was sitting behind us and cursing the whole time. Oh well, at least it was very entertaining...
